--- OPERATIONS ORDER ---
Situation
Background InformationFollowing the fall of Tobruk to Jerry in June, the strategic situation in the Western Desert remains fluid. Eighth Army has established defensive positions at El Alamein, whilst enemy forces consolidate their gains and attempt to exploit towards the Suez Canal. Intelligence reports indicate significant Axis air assets have been moved forward to captured aerodromes around Tobruk to support forthcoming offensive operations. The enemy's extended supply lines and concentration of materiel at forward positions present lucrative targets for special operations designed to disrupt and deceive.
Combined Operations Headquarters has directed a coordinated series of raids along the North African littoral, codenamed Operation AGREEMENT, scheduled for mid-September. Your unit's mission forms part of the deception and preparatory phase, designed to stretch enemy defences, create alarm and despondency amongst garrison troops, and draw attention away from the main landings. Recent liaison with local irregular forces operating from the Jebel has secured limited vehicular support and a forward mounting base west of the Tobruk perimeter.
Five-Star Rating System
Combat Intensity:☆☆Roleplay Emphasis:☆☆Difficulty:☆☆☆☆
Friendly Forces
LIMA is a reinforced special service commando section consisting of approximately sixteen highly trained personnel organised into two teams, with third team serving as over-watch marksmen.
Supporting Assets
Local irregular forces: remnants of the Senussi-aligned resistance operating from STARTEX position (identified oasis west of Tobruk) - have provided the mounting base and motor transport. These indigenous allies are not considered reliable for combat operations but have demonstrated competence in local navigation and have provided valuable intelligence on enemy routines and patrol patterns. No formal command relationship exists; cooperation is strictly liaison basis.
No direct fire support, close air support, or quick reaction forces are available. The nearest friendly positions are Eighth Army lines at El Alamein, approximately 300 miles east. Wireless communication with higher headquarters will be sporadic at best. LIMA operates independently and must rely entirely upon its own resources.
Enemy Forces
The Tobruk sector is held by elements of the Deutsche Afrika Korps and associated Luftwaffe units. Following the capture of the fortress in June, Jerry has established a substantial garrison estimated at approximately divisional strength, with combat elements, supply echelons, and air assets concentrated within the perimeter and at outlying positions.
Ground Forces: Primary enemy composition consists of German infantry and motorized units, supported by anti-aircraft batteries, coastal defence guns, and armoured car patrols. The enemy maintains a rapid reaction force of motorized infantry believed to be at least company strength, capable of swift deployment to threatened positions. German troops are well-disciplined, equipped with modern small arms, machine guns, mortars, and light artillery. Standard defensive positions include sandbagged strongpoints, slit trenches, wire obstacles, and minefields at key approaches.
Air Assets: Luftwaffe units have moved forward into captured aerodromes around Tobruk to support forthcoming operations. Intelligence indicates the presence of Sturzkampfgeschwader (dive-bomber) units equipped with Junkers Ju-87 Stuka aircraft, and possibly Jagdgeschwader (fighter) elements with Messerschmitt Bf-109 fighters. Ground support personnel include mechanics, armorers, and Luftwaffe security detachments. Airfields are defended by light flak positions and perimeter patrols.
Support Elements: Enemy logistics infrastructure includes ammunition dumps, fuel stores, vehicle parks, and supply depots scattered throughout the sector. Communications are maintained via wireless and landline, with signals discipline reportedly good. Medical facilities and prisoner-of-war cages are established within the main fortress area.
Enemy Expected Behaviour: German doctrine emphasizes aggressive response to partisan activity and raids. Once an alarm is raised, expect swift coordination between positions, immediate deployment of reserves, and determined pursuit of withdrawing forces. The enemy will likely treat any incursion as potentially part of larger offensive operations and react with appropriate force. Captured personnel can expect harsh interrogation by Abwehr or Sicherheitsdienst elements.
Mission
TaskingLIMA is tasked to: Conduct coordinated sabotage operations against Axis air and ground installations in the Tobruk sector during the period 0300-0800 hours, in order to destroy enemy aircraft, create alarm and confusion amongst garrison forces, and support deception operations for OPERATION AGREEMENT.
Specifically: Execute diversionary raid on Fort Solaro ammunition cache (OBJ BRONZE) to draw enemy reserves southward, followed by main assault on Fort Marcuca Aerodrome (OBJ GOLD) to destroy parked aircraft and aviation fuel stocks. If opportunity permits and casualties allow, neutralize Fort Marcuca garrison (OBJ SILVER).
End-state
Mission Success: LIMA successfully destroys enemy air assets at Fort Marcuca Aerodrome, inflicts maximum material damage and casualties, and withdraws intact to STARTEX position without compromise of OPERATION AGREEMENT's main objectives. Enemy garrison forces are left confused as to raid objectives and scale, believing the action to be isolated special forces harassment rather than preparatory to larger operations. All personnel return across the wire to friendly lines within 48 hours of mission completion.
Mission Failure or Compromise: Should the mission be aborted prior to execution or fail catastrophically, LIMA will disperse and exfiltrate individually or in pairs across the desert, utilizing escape and evasion procedures per standing orders. Personnel will make for pre-arranged emergency RV points and attempt to reach the wire through indigenous assistance or independent navigation. Under no circumstances are operational details regarding OPERATION AGREEMENT to be divulged if captured. Personnel will conduct standard SERE protocols: delay capture, deny intelligence, attempt detachment during transfer to permanent POW facilities.
GOD SAVE THE KING
Execution
Commander's IntentThe purpose of the mission to continue harrassment of german positions in north africa to impact their ability to retaliate as much as possible. The focus of this mission, will be to cause a distraction by raiding and blowing up a nearby position of Fort Solaro, in order to draw German focrses away from the actual target, Fort Marcuca Aerodrome. There is one primary objective and to secondary objectives: PRIMARY OBJECTIVE GOLD: Destruction of german air assets at the aerodrome SECONDARY OBJECTIVE SILVER: Elimination of German position on Fort Macuca SECONDARY OBJECTIVE BRONZE: Elimination of the German position on Fort Solaro
Tasks and Sequencing
LIMA 1 will insert in light vehicles towards DISMOUNT 1. At all times, LIMA will hold up at any RV's before and after crossing any roads, in order to ensure that they have not been seen. LIMA 1-3 are a sniper team, that will deploy alone to gather intel on OBJECTIVE GOLD/SILVER. They should make their way to the required OP's (A,B,C,D) or other positions, in order to establish the positions of enemy aircraft and be in position to support the assault on the airfield. OBJECTIVE BRONZE should be approachable from the undefended NE side. LIMA will approach from DM1 while it is still dark, take the small garrison there by surprise, eliminating them without raising the alarm if possible. The cache should serve as a large bonfire, so the sapper will plant charges, either under stealth or under fire if the alarm has been raised, to go off at roughly dawn-10, at which point LIMA will move back to the DM1 and mount up, before moving towards the airfield. At this point, either stealth has been maintained, or the alarm has been raised. Either way, the detonation of the cache will ensure that the German garrison at the airfield is on its way to support the remains of OBJ BRONZE at roughly dawn, leaving GOLD, and potentially SILVER, open to attack. Upon confirmation from LIMA 1-3 that a convoy has left the AO, LIMA will commence the attack on the barracks and hangar area, using small arms, explosives, and any german equipment if necessary to destroy material at the field. It is likely that there will remain a small detachment of defending troops, but these should be ovecome through surprise that the attack is on their position and not OBJ Bronze. If possible, depending on casualties, damage, time, and recon from LIMA 1-3, there is an optional objective SILVER to overcome the garrison of Fort Marcuca. This will be determined in the field, but will most likely involve direct approach from the vehicles, quick charges on the bastions, and exfil asap via RV3 markers. ACTIONS ON Being sighted prior to OBJ BRONZE: Call off assault and redo a different day Going loud at OBJ Bronze: Quick setting of charges, explosion required to draw away garrison from GOLD. Mount up and move to OP-A asap. Capture: Standard SERE/OPSEC process. Delay capture, deny intel, detach during transfer.
